Controlling your calendar sources

Updated over a week ago

We are thrilled to introduce a fresh update to our availability calendar on the HorizonWebRef mobile apps for Android, iPhone, and iPad. This new user interface offers enhanced functionality and customization options, giving you greater control over how you view your game schedule alongside your availability.

Introducing Customization: Show My Games Toggle

With our latest update, we've introduced a level of customization to your availability calendar. In the previous versions of the availability calendar, your personal game schedule was automatically displayed alongside your availability. This was a helpful feature that allowed you to quickly see your assigned games in relation to your available time slots.

You now have the option to decide whether you want your assigned games displayed on the calendar or not. This toggle is conveniently located on the Availability Calendar page, just below the "INSTRUCTIONS" section. It is off by default but can be enabled by you, and the system will remember your preference once you've specified a new setting.

If you're in month view on a small screen device, you may not be able to see the full details, but by clicking the date number in the top-right corner of each calendar day, you can access the full text of your game assignment calendar event, including the time.

Accessing the Toggle: Calendar Sources

To access the "Show My Games" toggle, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the HorizonWebRef mobile app on your Android, iPhone, or iPad device.

  2. Navigate to the Availability Calendar section.

  3. Scroll down to find the "Calendar Sources" section.

  4. Within this section, you will see two toggles:

    • Show My Games: This toggle allows you to display or hide your assigned games on the availability calendar.

    • Show Holidays: This toggle lets you display public holidays on the calendar.

Customize Your View: Benefits of the Toggle

The introduction of the "Show My Games" toggle brings a range of benefits to your scheduling experience:

  1. Focus on Availability: For officials who prefer to primarily focus on their availability, toggling off the display of assigned games streamlines the calendar, making it easier to see when you're available to accept new game assignments.

  2. Reduced Clutter: This customization option is especially helpful for those with a busy game schedule. Toggling off the display of assigned games minimizes visual clutter, allowing you to clearly view your availability without distractions.

  3. Personalized Display: The availability calendar becomes tailored to your preferences. You can easily switch between showing and hiding your assigned games based on your immediate needs.

Other Updated Interface Changes:

Updating your availability on the new calendar is intuitive. Previously, you accessed a drop-down menu by clicking on a day. This is still available by clicking on the date numbers in the top-right corner to access advanced settings for that day. From here, you can set detailed availability options like "Available Before," "Available After," "Available Between," or "Not Available Between."

Additionally, the new interface now has fast access to toggle your availability for an entire day by clicking the calendar square for a day. It's as simple as choosing between "Available All Day" (green) and "Unavailable All Day" (red).

We've also updated our color coding scheme. Green still signifies "Available All Day," and red represents "Unavailable All Day." However, the calendar no longer employs blue for partial-day availability. Instead, the base calendar day will remain red or green, while partial-day events will be highlighted in the opposite color to indicate your specific availability.

Changing the Quick Toggle Behavior

By default, the new availability calendar contains a quick toggle feature that allows you to quickly switch a calendar day between available and unavailable with one click or tap. To set a more advanced setting for a day, users must click the date number in the top right corner of a calendar day to open the advanced editor. On small-screen devices, some users may find the quick toggle option undesirable if they are having difficulty clicking the calendar date number. We've provided a new option below the Instructions section to disable the quick toggle functionality if desired. When disabled, clicking a calendar day will also open the advanced editor giving you more room to click or tap to access the advanced editor if you're having trouble clicking the small date numbers. When changing this preference, your device will remember the selected setting for future returns to the availability calendar on that device.
