What Are Push Notifications?
Push notifications are real-time alerts sent from our servers to your mobile device, even when the app isn’t open. They let you know about new assignments, schedule updates, or important system messages instantly. On iOS, these are delivered through Apple’s APNs service; on Android, through Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM).
How Our App Handles Notifications
By default, notifications are enabled as soon as you install the HorizonWebRef mobile app. There’s nothing you need to turn on initially. If you ever tap Disable in the app’s settings or if your device’s system settings block them, you won’t receive alerts until you re-enable them.
In-App Notification Controls
Open HorizonWebRef.
Tap the Settings menu in the top toolbar.
Select Notifications.
Ensure the toggles are set to On.
Ensure that any Do-Not-Disturb settings are turned Off.
iOS System Notification Settings
Open the iOS Settings app on your iPhone/iPad. This is the main settings app for your device, not the settings within the mobile app.
Scroll to HorizonWebRef.
Tap Notifications.
Turn on Allow Notifications.
Choose your alert style (Lock Screen, Banners, etc.) and enable Sounds or Badges.
Android System Notification Settings
Open your device Settings on your Android device. This is the main settings for your device, not the settings within the mobile app.
Go to Apps & notifications (or Apps).
Find and tap HorizonWebRef.
Tap Notifications.
Make sure Show notifications is On, then enable any specific categories you need (e.g., Assignments, System Alerts).
Troubleshooting Tips
Reinstall the app. Uninstall and redownload from the App Store/Google Play to reset defaults. This will automatically reenable push notifications upon your first login.
Restart your device. A quick reboot often clears stuck settings.
Check Do Not Disturb/Focus. Ensure you have not enabled "Do Not Distrub" or "Focus" modes on your physical device. If your device has these modes enabled, it may silence, suppress, or hide HorizonWebRef push notification alerts.
Disable Battery/Data Saver. Power-saving features can block background notifications. Turn off battery saving measures temporarily. Ensure that the HorizonWebRef mobile app does not have battery usage restrictions applied to the app via your device's settings.
