Customize your notification delivery time

Updated over a week ago

Text message assignment reminders are a valuable tool for keeping track of your officiating commitments. By default, these reminders are sent out at 6:00 am. However, we understand that everyone has different preferences and schedules. That's why we offer you the flexibility to change when these text messages are sent to you.

To Customize Text Message Reminder Times:

  1. Log in to your HorizonWebRef.com user account.

  2. Navigate to your Personal Profile via the main navigation menu.

  3. Select the Text Messaging tab.

  4. Here, you can easily adjust the times when text messages will be sent to you. You can set a specific start time that better aligns with your schedule so you don't receive messages at 6:00 am if it's inconvenient for you. By default, text messages are allowed any time of the day without restrictions.

Why are my text message notifications delayed?

It's important to note that while we strive to provide timely notifications, there can be instances where text message notifications experience delays. These delays are often beyond our control and may occur due to the process of sending notifications through email-to-SMS relays.

Text message notifications rely on these relays, and sometimes, they can be rejected, filtered, or throttled by receiving carriers. Throttling, for instance, is a "soft failure" where the carrier delays the delivery. Our notification system persists in retrying the notification every 5 minutes for up to 72 hours, hoping it will be accepted by the carrier. If the carrier eventually accepts the message, it will be delivered; otherwise, it may time out, leading to notification abandonment.

To potentially avoid delays altogether and receive immediate and reliable notifications, consider using our dedicated mobile apps for Android and iOS. These apps allow you to receive push notifications directly to your device, bypassing the need for SMS relay services and carrier-related issues.
