How to use Official Metrics

See one official's season load and familiarity with this game before you assign.

New Horizon Experience. This article describes the New Horizon Experience, which is available now. As of September 28, 2026, New Horizon is the default starting point on a computer or laptop. In the Horizon WebRef mobile apps for Android and iOS, New Horizon is already what you see. If you still have the older layout, choose Switch to New Horizon from the banner or your account menu. You can switch back to Legacy Horizon from that menu any time during the transition.

Metrics (also called Official Metrics in this Help Center) is the snapshot assignors open while assigning a game. It shows how that person has worked this season relative to the home team, away team, venue, and game level in front of you. Open it from the assigning window on Master Game Schedule, or from Assign by Official. Officials who only work games do not open Metrics unless they also assign.

You do not turn Metrics on in System Settings. Anyone who can open Assign on Master Game Schedule can open Metrics for people on that list. There is nothing to set up beyond having games and assignment history in the current season so the numbers have something to measure.

Open Metrics from Assign

On Master Game Schedule, find the game and tap Assign. In the assigning window, tap the official's name to open their menu. Choose Metrics (chart icon). The Metrics panel opens on top of the assign list. Closing it returns you to the same people, search, and filters.

Assign on a phone. Eligible officials list for a game, ready to open a name menu.

On a computer, the same assigning window uses the wider layout.

Assign on a computer. Eligible officials table for a game, ready to open a name menu.

On a phone and on a computer, the path is the same: name menu, then Metrics. The panel title is Metrics.

On a computer, the same name menu shows Metrics with the chart icon.

You can also open Metrics from Assign by Official: use Detailed cards or the table on a larger screen, then tap the chart icon next to openings. Compact cards on a phone hide Metrics to keep the row short. See How to assign games to one official for that workflow.

What you see

The panel starts with the person's name (and city when it is on their profile), then shaded tiles for season load and this game. A short section titled What this means for assigning answers the questions you need before you assign. Charts appear only when there is something to show.

Metrics on a phone. Season tiles, What this means for assigning, and familiarity chart for one official.

On a computer, the same Metrics panel shows more chart columns side by side.

Shaded tiles

Typical tiles include Games this season, Upcoming, Turnbacks, Acceptance, and Games this month. When your organization uses them, you may also see Declines, On this date (same calendar day as this game), the game code name with a count at that level, Rating, and Ranking. Acceptance includes declines and turnbacks from assignment history, not only accepted versus still pending.

What this means for assigning

Four short reads sit under the tiles:

  • Team exposure (or venue exposure when the game has no teams) - overexposed, new here, or balanced for the teams or venue on this game.

  • Workload - too much, busy, not enough, or typical versus a typical official in your organization this season.

  • This level - new to it, limited, or ready at this game code (or league when that is the comparison).

  • Declines & turnbacks - often says no, some friction, or reliable based on this season's history.

Charts

When the person has season data to chart, you may see:

  • Familiarity with this game - how often they have worked the home team, away team, venue, and (when applicable) league or game code on this game.

  • Positions this season - which positions they have worked most.

  • Games by month - how their load is spread across the season.

  • Acceptance - accepted, pending, declined, and turned back.

If they have no season assignments yet, the tiles show zeros and charts stay hidden until there is history to show.

How assignors use Metrics

Check Metrics when you want a quick sense of fairness and fit before you finalize a crew. High team counts can signal over-familiarity. A light season load or "new to it" at this game code can be a reason to give someone a chance. A busy month or "already assigned on this date" helps you avoid stacking too much on one person. Location familiarity helps when a venue is hard to work. Use Metrics together with what you already know about the person - it does not replace judgment, and it does not change eligibility rules on the assign list.

If you still see the older layout

On a computer or laptop, the older legacy layout stays only if you switched back to Legacy Horizon. As of September 28, 2026, New Horizon is the default starting point. Choose Switch to New Horizon from the banner or your account menu to return. This article describes the New Horizon screen. On that older assigning window, Metrics opens from a bar-graph control next to the official's name and may be labeled Official Metrics. Until that older layout is retired, use the English words you see there.
