How to find your way around New Horizon

Learn where the main menu and account menu live, and what each one opens.

New Horizon Experience. This article describes the New Horizon Experience. In the Horizon WebRef mobile apps for Android and iOS, New Horizon is already what you see. On a computer or laptop, choose Try the New Horizon Experience from the banner or your account menu. You can switch back from that menu any time.

This article is about the two menus you use after you sign in: the main menu on the left, and the account menu that opens from your photo and name. It is not about one page. It applies to every signed-in member: officials, assignors, coaches, observers, League Personnel, and organization administrators.

Use it when you are looking for the menu itself, or when you remember a page name and need to see which menu holds it. On a computer or laptop you may still see the older legacy layout until you choose Try the New Horizon Experience from the banner or your account menu. In the Horizon WebRef mobile apps for Android and iOS, New Horizon is already what you see.

You do not turn these menus on as a separate feature. They are part of New Horizon. What appears inside them depends on your role and on what your organization uses. Organization administrators change those options in System Settings.

The two menus

Think of New Horizon as having two homes for links. The main menu is how you move between everyday pages: Home, Schedule, Availability, Payments, people, shared files, and (when you can use them) Settings. The account menu is about you: your profile, password, theme, help, and signing out.

They sit in different places on a computer and on a phone, but the names stay the same. Once you know which menu you need, the rest is opening it and tapping the English label you want.

Find the main menu

On a computer or laptop, the main menu is the dark strip on the left. It stays in view while you work. The Horizon mark sits at the top. Under that you see Home, then groups such as Schedule and Availability. A group with an arrow opens a short list when you choose it.

On a phone, that same menu is tucked away so the page has room. Look at the top-left corner for the menu icon (three lines). Tap it and the main menu slides in from the left. Tap the icon again to close it. The picture below shows where that icon sits on Home.

After you tap the icon, the dark main menu covers the left side of the screen. Home, Schedule, Availability, and the other groups are the same names you see on a computer.

On a computer you can also make the left menu narrower. The control at the top of the strip is Collapse menu when the labels are showing, and Expand menu when you only see icons. Expanding brings the names back. That choice is remembered on that computer.

What is in the main menu

The top of the menu is always Home. That opens Members Home. The groups under Home open only the pages your role and organization actually use. If a name from this list is missing, it is usually because that tool is off for your organization, or because your membership does not include it.

Here is the closed menu, so you can match the icons and names when you are hunting for a group.

On a computer, the same names sit in that left strip.

Schedule

Open Schedule when you want games. Assignors and other scheduling roles see Master for the full organization list. Officials also see Personal for their own assignments. Coaches and athletic directors see Team instead. When your organization publishes a public schedule, Public is in this group. Officials also see TBA Requests when TBA or swaps are on, and they may see Incidents and Reports when those tools are in use.

On a computer, Schedule opens the same list in the left strip.

Availability

Officials open Availability for the calendar they mark available or unavailable. When your organization uses more than the calendar, this group also lists Calendar, Blocks, and Mileage. If only the calendar is on, Availability is a single link instead of a group.

Payments

Payments is the money group for officials. Direct Deposit opens the Payment Center when your organization pays that way in the United States. Most members also see Payroll Report and Adjustments. Assignors and organization administrators who work with pay see more: Summary Report, an organization report named after your scheduler label (often Assignor Report), Billing Invoices, a league summary when leagues are on, and 1099 Export. Compensation appears when your organization pays by the hour.

On a computer, Payments opens that same list.

Users

Users is people. Everyone with a membership can open Directory and Email. Officials also see Groups. When your organization ranks or rates people, Rankings and Ratings join this list for the roles that may use them.

Shared

Shared holds files and clips the organization posts for members: Videos, Memos, and Documents.

Settings

Settings is for organization administrators and assignors who set the organization up. It is not on the menu for a typical official. When you have it, System opens System Settings. From there you turn features on, including the ones that add items to this same main menu. The rest of the group is the setup pages those features need: Teams when teams are on, the locations page (your organization may call it Locations, Ice Rinks, or another word), Game Structure, Profile Fields, Mileage Rules when mileage is on, and the league module when that add-on is on.

On a computer, Settings opens that same setup list in the left strip.

If you are an organization administrator and a member cannot see Public, TBA Requests, Mileage, or another item, open System and check the matching feature. Turn the feature on there, finish any setup that feature needs, and the name appears in the main menu for the roles that may use it. Members who cannot change settings can take that wording to an administrator. You do not need a second product or a special menu switch.

Find the account menu

The account menu lives in the top bar, on the right. Look for your photo, your name, and your role. On a computer the name and role sit next to the photo. On a phone you may see only the photo. That control is named Account menu.

On a computer, your photo, name, and role sit together in that same top-right corner.

Tap or click that photo (or your name) and the account menu opens. On a phone it fills most of the screen.

On a computer it drops down from the top right.

The top of that menu greets you by first name. Then come the account items.

On a computer, the same account items drop down from the top right. Language stays on the flag in the top bar instead of inside this list.

My Profile opens Personal Profile. Password is where you change the password you use to sign in. Administrative Forms is the forms list your organization uses for applications and similar paperwork.

Theme and language sit in the next group. If you are on the light colors you see Dark Theme. If you are already on dark you see Light Theme. Only one of those two appears at a time. On a phone, Language is in this menu as well. On a computer, language is the flag in the top bar, next to your name.

On a computer (and in a phone browser) you may also see Switch to legacy Horizon and Share Feedback on New Horizon. Those let you go back to the older layout or send a note without switching. The Horizon WebRef mobile apps for Android and iOS stay on New Horizon and do not show a switch back. Some newer memberships already start on New Horizon and never show those items, even on a computer.

The next group is help and news: Software Updates, Suggest Features, Software Status, Help Center, and Tech Support. Software Updates can show a count when there are notes you have not opened yet. Help Center opens this Help Center in a new tab. Tech Support starts a live chat when that is offered.

At the bottom, Switch Groups appears when you belong to more than one organization. Logout signs you out. If you are viewing someone else's account as an organization administrator, this menu instead shows Stop simulating so you can return to your own sign-in.

On a computer, assignors and organization administrators also get a Type Game # box in the top bar, with Search beside it. That jumps to a game by its number. The organization name in the top bar can open Change Organization when you belong to more than one group.

Shortcuts at the bottom of a phone

On a phone, Members Home also keeps four shortcuts along the bottom: Home, Schedule, Availability, and Directory. Those are the same pages as in the main menu. Use them when you want to jump without opening the left menu. Everything else still lives in the main menu or the account menu.

If you still see the older legacy desktop or laptop layout

On a computer or laptop in a web browser, the older layout keeps its menus across the top of the page instead of a left strip and an account photo. Look for Members Home and the other page names in that top row. Your name or account area is still where you change password, open profile, and sign out, but the wording can differ.

To use the menus in this article, choose Try the New Horizon Experience from the banner or from that account area. After a short welcome you may get a practice walk-through of the left menu and the account menu. Finish those steps, then come back here if you need the names again.

In the Horizon WebRef mobile apps for Android and iOS you already have New Horizon, so you will not see that older top row.
