How to import teams from SportsEngine
Bring SportsEngine teams into Horizon so you can import games from SportsEngine next.
New Horizon Experience. This article describes the New Horizon Experience, which is available now. As of September 28, 2026, New Horizon is the default starting point on a computer or laptop. In the Horizon WebRef mobile apps for Android and iOS, New Horizon is already what you see. If you still have the older layout, choose Switch to New Horizon from the banner or your account menu.
This article is for organization administrators and assignors who manage teams. Officials who only work games do not see this import. Your organization must have SportsEngine connected in System Settings first.
Before the first import, read Getting Started with Sports Engine and complete the setup steps.
Turn it on and set it up
Only organization administrators can connect SportsEngine. Open the Main Navigation Menu (left on most screens, right when your language reads right to left). Open System Settings. Under Integrations, connect SportsEngine. Turn on Feature #10 so teams are on, if it is not already.
When SportsEngine is not connected, the import window explains that and links to Integrations. Members who cannot change settings can take that wording to an organization administrator.
How to import
Import is three steps in one window: Choose, Preview, then Results.
1. Open Import from SportsEngine
Open the Main Navigation Menu, then open Teams. Your organization may use another word for Teams. At the top of the page, open Utilities, then choose Import from SportsEngine.
2. Choose an organization and teams
Pick the SportsEngine organization, then choose the teams to import. Use search in the team list when the list is long. Tap Continue.
If no organizations appear, check the SportsEngine connection in System Settings. If no teams appear for that organization, check those teams in SportsEngine.
3. Preview, then import
Preview lists what would change. Counts appear at the top: New, Update, and No change. Uncheck any row you do not want. Tap Import and confirm.
For some SportsEngine setups, importing teams can also add related leagues and game codes. Preview notes that when it applies.
After the run, Results shows how many teams were created, updated, or left unchanged. Close the window to refresh the Teams list.
What happens next
Imported teams keep a SportsEngine ID. On Teams, names managed by that connection stay locked so schedule imports stay matched. When you are ready to bring games over, use How to import games from SportsEngine on the Master Game Schedule.
You can run the team import again. Matching SportsEngine teams are updated rather than duplicated. Deactivated teams that match again are brought back into use.
If you still see the older layout
On the older layout, open Add/Edit/Remove Teams and use the Sports Engine import icon on that page. Connect SportsEngine in System Settings first. The New Horizon Experience uses Utilities on Teams instead.
